How to Teach Classroom Procedures and Team Building Ideas

Two of the most important things you need for a successful start to your year are a strong management plan with well-defined classroom procedures and routines, and a risk-free, welcoming environment for your students.

In the past, I’ve had first days that were pure poetry, but I’ve also had days that were pure…well, you can imagine! While there are definitely things that can happen in those first days that are out of our control, there are many things we can do beforehand to set the stage for success.

First, let’s talk about classroom procedures and routines. In my store is a comprehensive checklist with over 100 procedures and routines that I model and teach to my students constantly throughout the year. In addition, I’ve created a massive, step-by-step guide that walks you through how to teach over 80 procedures.  Click HERE to check it out.

Whether it’s lining up for recess, sharpening a pencil, or transitioning from one activity to the next, having classroom procedures and routines are extremely important. There is honestly nothing better than having your classroom run like a well-oiled machine. Routines save learning time and will make your job a lot easier. The biggest thing to remember when teaching classroom procedures and routines is that you want your students to do them correctly and without your help.

  1. It’s that time again!! Great advice! Excited about the giveaway, too. Wahoo!! One of the main things I never quite understood the importance of during my first few years of teaching was MODELING how I want something done. My reading homework was never the way I wanted it until I started modeling how to do it, the first week of school, with a fun read-aloud!

  2. Hi Kristine! I’m not sure why, but on Bloglovin’ the most recent post of yours that is showing up is from April. I don’t know if I’m the only one having that issue, but I want to be able to follow your blog!

  3. @Inspector Schechter- I announced the winners to my two TpT gift cards yesterday! The big Grand Prize winner will be announced any day now!
