Product Description
As students enter third grade, they are typically introduced to the standard of referencing the text as they answer questions. They’ve answered who, what, when, why, and how questions before, but now they must refer to the text or cite evidence to prove their answers. This is a huge cognitive leap for students. In fourth grade, students are required to differentiate between explicit and implicit information when backing up claims with evidence. In fifth and sixth grade, the standards require that students quote accurately or cite the portion of the text which supports their answer. Mastery of these skills will lay the foundation for higher-level reading comprehension, creative writing, and research.
This resource will ask your students to prove their answers by requiring varying types of evidence to back up their claims. I’ve differentiated each text so you can meet the needs of each reader in your class and improve reading comprehension class-wide.
