Product Description
Students are often surprised to learn that not everything they read in an informational text is true. Authors include their own opinions, beliefs, and ideas, which may be false or unfounded. When reading an informational text, students must look at the claims with a critical eye and analyze the evidence the author provides to support the claims.
The goal of this resource is to help students identify an author’s point or claim and think critically to analyze the reasons and evidence used to support the point or claim. As students progress through this resource, the text and questions increase in complexity. This resource will help your students do the following:
- Identify an author’s point or claim
- Identify which reasons and evidence support a point or claim
- Identify the different types of reasons and evidence used to support a point or claim
- Analyze the type and strength of evidence used to support a point or claim
- Analyze which points or claims are supported by reasons and evidence and those which are not
This resource includes everything you will need to practice reasons and evidence to support a point and analyzing an author’s claim with your students! I’ve included THREE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF EACH PASSAGE for you to easily differentiate in your classroom!
