Product Description

This resource includes everything you will need to practice text structure with your students. I’ve included THREE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF EACH PASSAGE for you to easily differentiate in your classroom! There are also multiple choice questions, graphic organizers, and short-answer questions for your students to practice text structure.

Text structure knowledge is critical for comprehension of expository texts. Text structure refers to how the text is organized and how the ideas and information in the text are related. Students who understand text structures approach a text with an expectation and plan for their reading because they expect the information to unfold in a certain way. For example, students who can recognize a compare and contrast text structure will read to find comparison points and differences. Students who can recognize a problem-solution text structure will look for problems, search for solutions offered, and evaluate the solutions based on information provided in the text. Having this knowledge before reading through a text will lead to increased comprehension.

The goal of this resource is to expose students to all of the different nonfiction text structures and help them determine the structure of each text. The questions help students focus on how the information is organized and help them identify key signal words that provide clues about the structure of the text.
