Description

Determining the meaning of unknown words is a daunting task for many students – and we see them just skip over unfamiliar vocabulary frequently. My Context Clues Passages are designed so that students can use context clues from the text to determine the meaning of new vocabulary. I have intentionally included vocabulary that will be unknown or only vaguely familiar to students, so that they are forced to rely on restatements, synonyms, antonyms, inferences, examples, and parts of speech to determine the meaning of the unknown words. With 3 differentiated levels for each of my 10 passages, your students will be using context clues to uncover the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary in no time!

Why Teachers Like You LOVE This Resource:

“These passages and questions were absolutely PERFECT for my students. It was just what I needed for daily practice with my students. I love how many passages there are. My students this year need a ton of explicit practice and we have been working through one passage daily for the past three days. I can already see that my students are starting to understand and be more comfortable with context clues. The passages are engaging as well! What I love the most, I think, are all the different question stems for context clues that you used. It helps my students to see the questions asked in multiple ways! Thank you so much!”, –Language Arts With Heart

“I am loving using these passages in my small groups to reinforce skills. We are limited to 15 minutes with small groups of students so this resource has been extremely helpful. Thank you so much!” -Jessica D.
