Winter Whodunit is a seasonal math project that requires students to use math and logic to eliminate suspects and solve a crime. They’ll use their knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, coordinate graphing, and line plots to sort through clues, analyze finger prints, decode secret messages, calculate distances from the crime scene, and determine if witnesses are being truthful or not.
Wintertime is full of exciting events—sometimes students are a little more distracted, and sometimes you find a few spare minutes between activities. Grab students’ attention with Winter Math Logic Puzzles – ready-to-go brain teasers and winter logic games that are just perfect for use as early finisher activities, enrichment activities, or morning work. Designed to give students the opportunity to solve real-life cold-weather problems, these logic puzzles push students to practice both their reasoning and key math skills. Students will be so engaged as they figure out the street snow-plowing schedule, get a skier down the hill, and help Gabe’s dad coach the hockey team, that they won’t even realize how hard they’re stretching their critical-thinking skills!
This winter-themed helps students read complex texts independently and for a specific purpose. I’ve researched several strategies for close reading and have developed a process that will make your teaching more effective, and help your students develop skills to read for deeper meaning.
